The sprawling FRH of Powalgarh is 6 km from Bailparao built in 1912. In December 2012, an area of 505 sq km was notified as Powalgarh Conservation reserve due to its importance for wildlife conservation. The forests of Sitabani are contiguous from Powalgarh Drives to Bhandarpani and Sitabani are good. The ‘Bachelor of Powalgarh’ was shot in this area by Jim Corbert. Kotabagh village just above Powalgarh on a flat land is a good visit. Thakur Dutt Joshi a retired Forest ranger, who has shot several man-eaters lives here. walk to Sandani chaur and Hathigaliyar are worth exploring through diverse forests full of birds.

Sandani Gaja large grassland (5kms from FRH), Dabka & Baur rivers, wild life sighting, birdwatching (over 350 spices), short trails to Dabka valley and Sandani Gaja, haripura Reservoirs, Chhoti Haldwani.

Pawalgarh, home to some marvelous forests, became famous after the publication of the story Bachelor of Powalgarh in the book Maneaters of Kumaon published by the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist, Jim Corbett, in 1944. Nicknamed the Bachelor of Powalgarh the tiger was the largest ever hunted by Jim Corbett, and took over a decade to hunt. It was finally shot in 1930. Pawalgarh situated in the foothills of Nainital District.

Pawalgarh’s biodiversity

137 species of trees, 58 species of shrubs and 27 species of climbers, 52 species of herbs and 71 species of grasses & bamboos.
More than 125 species of butterflies – Spot Swordtail, Spangled Plushblue, Peacock Royal, Redspot, Copper Flash and Baronet to name a few.
32 species of mammals – tiger, elephant, leopard, leopard cat, jungle cat and ghoral are just some of the mammals seen here.
365 species of birds – Ibisbill, Great Slaty Woodpecker (and 15 other species of woodpeckers), Red-breasted Parakeet, Green-billed Malkoha, Common Green Magpie, Ashy-headed Green Pigeon, Nepal Wren Babbler, Hooded Pitta, Long-tailed Broadbill, White-bellied Erpornis and White-rumped Needletail are some of the bird specials.

Note: The Eco-Lodge is private Home Stay run by local villagers that care environment as commitment and duty. So only persons love the Nature and understand the importance of it are most welcome. Basic amenities with electricity available at lodge. If you are looking excessive amenities we suggest to stay at other Resorts or Hotels of Corbett. Booking must be done before 1 week. Immediate, two, three days before booking is not possible. Parking facility is available.
It is also best place for students to learn and understand nature and conservation. School/Colleges/Institution wish to do Nature and conservation learning Tour are also welcome. About 60 students may accommodate at this place on shared basis. Send separate email regarding this.
